David Bromberg (b. September 19, 1945 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) is an American guitarist. Bromberg has an eclectic style, playing bluegrass, blues, folk, country and western, and rock & roll equally well. He is known for his quirky, humourous lyrics. He has played with Jerry Jeff Walker and Bob Dylan. He currenctly lives in Wilmington, Delaware where he owns a violin sales and repair shop. The quintessential musician's musician, Bromberg is proficient on fiddle, many styles of acoustic and electric guitar (to each of which he lends a highly individual voice), pedal steel guitar and dobro. David Lindley, Norman Blake, Mark O' Connor, and Ricky Skaggs are perhaps the only other major musicians with equal proficiency on three or more string instruments.

David Bromberg Quartet to Return (773 words)
For those who don’t remember, Bromberg was considered a musician’s musician, a master of the guitar, banjo, mandolin, and violin, who initially had a successful career as a sought-after session and backup instrumentalist.
Bromberg’s fate as a cult hero was sealed when he quit performing and recording in 1980, upon graduation from violin-making school.
Bromberg is happily married and raising a couple of kids in Wilmington, Delaware where, in a unique arrangement with the city, he renovated a building and created a music store, school and repair shop all under one roof.

To guitar aficionados, David Bromberg also is known for his unusually modified Martin guitar, an instrument that became so famous that Martin created a new size of flattop guitar – the M (or 0000) – in its image in 1977.
Guitarist David Bromberg may not be a household name outside of roots music circles, but his mainstage performance Sunday afternoon could change all that.
Appearances aside, Bromberg was far from toothless when it came to performing: He hit the stage at the Hart Theater in full musical stride with his band on Friday night, rolling out his eclectically inventive yet historically potent brand of roots music.
