After completing high-school, Brown completed a Diploma in Meteorology at Monash University, using this he worked at Australia's Bureau of Meterology for 3 years. In 1989, Brown was appraoched by Channel Ten's news reader David Johnston and he joined Ten News. After two years at Ten, David returned to the Bureau of Meteorology. After a total of nine years at the weather bureau, David was again approached to present the weather on television – this time by Seven News where he has presented the weeknight weather since.
