Guterson also wrote Family Matters: Why Homeschooling Makes Sense, a thoughtful discussion of why he and his wife teach their children at home and out in the world rather than sending them to school.
DavidGuterson has four children, all of whom were educated initially at home.
Guterson received his MA from the University of Washington.
He believes that there is a moral function to literature and that writers have an obligation to present moral questions for their readers to reflect on.
Guterson was co-producer of the 2000 film adaptation of Snow Falling on Cedars and collaborated closely with Academy Award-winning director Scott Hicks.
