David Hancock is in his third term as the Member of the Legislative Assembly for Edmonton-Whitemud. He served as the Minister of Advanced Education and as Government House Leader, Vice Chair of the Standing Policy Committee on Education and Employment, and as a member of the Agenda and Priorities Committee and the Treasury Board.


David Hancock also served as Minister of Justice and Attorney General and prior to that as Minister of Intergovernmental and Aboriginal Affairs.


David Hancock is a lawyer by profession and was a partner with Matheson and Company, Barristers and Solicitors before entering public service. He received his law degree from the University of Alberta in 1979.


David Hancock was born in Fort Resolution, N.W.T., on August 10, 1955. He lived in Hazelton, B.C. and the northern Alberta community of Fort Vermilion, where he graduated from La Crete Public School. Mr. Hancock moved to Edmonton in 1972. He and his wife Janet have three children: Ian, Janis and Janine
