David Hewlett is both an actor and an Internet entrepreneur. Born on 18 April 1968 in Redhill, Surrey, United Kingdom and raised in Canada, Hewlett became a regular on the series Traders and Kung Fu: The Legend Continues and starred in the movie Cube. He ran Darkyl Media, a web site design firm. He also founded Fusefilm.com, an internet community for filmmakers. Hewlett got his first computer in his mid-teens and became a self-described "computer nerd." While in high school in Toronto his acting career also began, starring in student films by Vincenzo Natali. He dropped out of high school in his senior year to pursue careers in acting and computing. He appeared in many low-budget horror movies, such as The Darkside and the minor cult favourite Pin.... He also guest starred in several television series. In 1996 he got one of his more well-known roles, as Grant Jansky on Traders. In 2001 he moved with his wife, Soo Garay, to Los Angeles to further their acting careers. He and Soo Garay divorced in 2004. Hewlett - I was a huge Doctor Who fan while I was a kid, and at some point I realized that my chances of becoming a "Timelord" were thin, so I decided that pretending to be one would be the better career path.
Hewlett - I've always been a computer nerd (Doctor Who was a clear give away I imagine!) When the Internet began to take off, I was getting a lot requests from friends asking me to put stuff together for them and decided to do web design, development and consulting on the side.
Hewlett - I'm afraid that given the tiny budget and schedule there was no time and not enough film for many mistakes...if we screwed up, we pretty much had to move on anyway.
