David Hood is a world class bassist from Muscle Shoals, Alabama. He also plays the trombone and is a member of the Alabama Music Hall of Fame.


Hood started his career as a back-up musician at FAME studios, then went on to found Muscle Shoals Sound Studio where he produced songs for The Rolling Stones, Willie Nelson, and Cher along with others.


His son, Patterson Hood, is frontman for The Drive-By Truckers.


Hood attended the University of North Alabama.

David Hood was probably born in 1693 at Liberton, to David 'Heads' and his wife Marion Fairbairn; their only other known child Alison born in 1690, died just before her first birthday.
The first confirmed record of David, is his marriage at Lasswade on 19 August 1715 to Katharine Archibald, a coal bearer originally from the coal works owned by Sir James Clerk of Penicuik on the north side of the Bilston Burn.
David was a collier at Dryden coalworks situated on the south side of the burn on the estate of Sir George Lockhart of Carnwath.
