Biography
David L Cook began his musical career at the age of five with his family The Cook Family Singers. David's family agreed he was a real draw for the group because he was small and extremely funny. Vestal Goodman, known as "The queen of gospel music", said she never laughed so hard until she worked with Little David. As David grew up he suffered several traumas. His father Donnell was an alcoholic and a very violent man. David's mother was a Cover Girl model in the 1960's. David's parents divorced in 1980 which brought an end to the Cook Family Singers. David continued singing and eventually crossed over and had a very successful stint as a club artist. David had several hit songs on the night club charts, but later said he found no joy in the scene. He finally went back to Christian music after firing his managers and in 1985 he recorded his first solo Christian album, "Come Follow Me" on FXL Records. The album proved only moderately successful. David needed something a little more youthful so he put out feelers for a new producer. In 1986 he signed onto the American Musical Academy of Arts Associations AMAAA, artist roster and things started moving for the young crooner. Mickey Hiter, Hank Snow and Johnny Cash compared David's style to that of Jim Reeves or Marty Robbins so writers were brought in to accentuate his vocal style. David's follow up album, "Personal Feelings" hit the inspirational charts and proved to be the move David needed. In 1986 he was personally invited by President Ronald Reagan to perform at the White House. David signed onto the prestigious promotional roster for the IAMAS Corporation and remains there to date.
