Packer admitted to the cannibalism but said that he only killed one of his companions, a man named Shannon Bell and that was in self-defence after he'd killed the others.
Packer's story is he went to look, tried to find a way out of this area they were lost in and when he came back Shannon Bell had killed everybody in the party and was starting to eat one of the other prospectors, and then Bell attacked Packer.
