David Rushe was an English recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.
On 19 March1858 at Lucknow, India, Troop Sergeant-Major Rushe displayed conspicuous bravery when, with another soldier, he attacked eight of the mutineers posted in a nullah and killed three of them.
