Thomas is remembered mainly for his hymn-tunes and songs such as "Drosom ni" and "Cymru fach i mi". Other works include a cantata, "Merch y llyn" ("Lady of the Lake"), and a choral work, "He fell among thieves", with words by Sir Henry Newbolt.
Pere Ubu's vocalist DavidThomas, "Beefheartian" transgressor of mastodontic bulk, continued, with a series of ferocious metropolitan raids at the head of patrols with such eccentric names as the Pedestrians, Trees, Eggs and especially Golden Palominos, the insane programme of the primitivisation of modernism begun by Pere Ubu.
Thomas was the exact opposite of the modish New York intellectual of the new wave era.
Il modo in cui Thomas porge i versi si situa fra il parlato e il cantato, scivola in melismi e si eleva in acuti striduli, si protrae senza fiato su note vertiginose, vibra tesissimo e si spezza nevrastenico, origina da un piu` maturo equilibrismo in sordina di registri colloquiali ed operatici.
