David Vanole is a former U.S. goalkeeper and current soccer coach.


He attended Aviation High School where he was a three-sport letterman and a four-time All-Ocean League goalkeeper.


Vanole played for UCLA from 1981 to 1985. As a junior, he backstopped UCLA to the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship. In that game, UCLA defeated American University in 8 overtimes. After graduating from UCLA, Vanole played first for the Los Angeles Heat then the San Francisco Bay Blackhawks of the American Professional Soccer League. David Vanole, a former goalkeeper for the U.S. men's team, was hired Thursday as goalkeeper coach of the women's national team.
Vanole started for the United States during five qualifiers for the 1990 World Cup and was the No. 3 goalkeeper on the roster during the tournament in Italy.
