David Ward played for and managed Leeds Rugby League FC. One of the most notable of his coaching career was when Ward successfully signed John Gallagher for Leeds, converting the player from Rugby Union, but was ultimately unsuccessful at Leeds, despite being in charge of the only full-time squad in the league at the time apart from Wigan.
