David Xanatos is one of the primary antagonists of the animated series Gargoyles. In the series, he is the founder and CEO of Xanatos Enterprises and a member of the Illuminati. Xanatos is amoral at best. His plans are often intricate and machiavellian. He is obsessed with obtaining immortality for himself and, eventually, his wife Fox. In pursuit of this goal, he is extremely self-interested, and considers himself an equal to Goliath. However, he is not vindicative by nature as he sees revenge as foolish and prefers to see setbacks in their best light of his intricate plans. His loyal right-hand man is Owen Burnett. Biography

David Xanatos started life as the son of Petros Xanatos, a fisherman from Bar Harbor, Maine. Young Xanatos received an anonymous letter which contained a priceless 10th century coin. He sold the coin, investing the money in a series of successful ventures and eventually building his corporation. Xanatos' holdings include Xanatos Enterprises, a robotics firm called the Scarab Corporation, and the television franchise Pack Media Studios. 1936 photo of the wharf Bar Harbor is a town located in Hancock County, Maine. ... As a means of recording the passage of time, the 10th century was that century which lasted from 901 to 1000. ...


He learned of Castle Wyvern from Demona, the only remaining Gargoyle from the the Wyvern Clan, and proceeded to purchase the castle and transport it, brick by brick, and reconstruct it atop his New York skyscraper, the Eyrie Building. With the castle "above the clouds," Xanatos successfully released the Manhattan Clan from their frozen sleep. Demona. ... Xanatos initially posed as the Gargoyle's ally, but was eventually revealed to be using them to steal technology from rival corporation Cyberbiotics. Having used the technology to build a replacement clan of robots dubbed the Steel Clan, Xanatos and Demona attempted to destroy the Gargoyles. The Steel Clan was defeated, however, and Xanatos was convicted for receiving stolen property ("Awakening, Part V").


Xanatos continued to plot against the Gargoyles from prison, testing them and attempting to remove them from the castle. Upon his release, he became focused on discovering their new home and creating worthy replacements, as well as continuing his quest for immortality.


Xanatos would meet an equal in Fox and marry her. It was on this occasion that, by inviting Goliath to the wedding and luring him into seeking reconciliation with Demona, Xanatos was able to arrange the reconstruction of the Phoenix Gate, allowing him to travel to the 10th century and plan for the ancient coin to be delivered to him in the first place. In this way, Xanatos fulfilled his own history throught a predestination paradox, at the same time proving himself to his father as a "self-made man" ("Vows"). A predestination paradox, also called a causal loop or causality loop, is a paradox of time travel that is often used as a convention in science fiction. ...


When Demona finally betrayed Xanatos to advance her own goals of destroying New York City, Xanatos was forced to call a truce with Goliath to stop her ("City of Stone, Part II"). Goliath was later instrumental in saving Xanatos' newborn son Alexander, at which time Xanatos pledged to pay the debt back to him ("The Gathering, Part II"). When the existence of the Gargoyles is revealed to the public, Xanatos ultimately calls an end to the feud and restores the Gargoyles to their ancestral home in the castle atop his own ("Hunter's Moon, Part III").
