Encyclopedia > David Yow

David Yow is an American musician born August 2, 1960. He co-founded the Austin, Texas rock group Scratch Acid. Yow originally played bass guitar, then switched to singing before Scratch Acid relocated to Chicago, Illinois. When that group dissolved, Yow co-founded a new group, The Jesus Lizard, which is now defunct. He was notorious for playing shows completely drunk and incoherent. It was not uncommon for Yow to remove his clothing during Jesus Lizard concerts, ending up completely naked by the second or third song. Considered a very charismatic man during live performances, Yow had the rare ability to transport audience members into a state of hysteria. His band The Jesus Lizard eventually landed a spot on the Lollapalooza tour, with little commercial success. David Yow, however, continues to be cited by many artists (particually those involved in underground music) as a main source of inspiration to this day.David Yow also has an older sister 47 year old Kathy Birdwell, older brother-in-Law, nephew-in-law 21 year old Codey Fritz, two nieces one 19 year old Angela Fritz and one 21 year old Rachael Birdwell, and two nephews one 15 year old Matthew Birdwell and one 14 year old Jonathan Birdwell. Yow and Scratch Acid recently performed a series of reunion shows in Austin, Chicago and Seattle. Yow was recently seen drinking heavily with Austin, TX based musician Toof.
