Counterfeiting
Yurman jewelry has long been seen as a status symbol.[citation needed] Because of this, many knock offs of his pieces have been created. Yurman is intensely possessive of his signature cable design, and has boasted that he earns well over a million per year settling copyright and trade infringement lawsuits.[citation needed] An important difference between the counterfeit and real jewelry is that the real authentic David Yurman jewelry will oxidize and start to turn black in between the cables which gives the jewelry an antique and unique look.
