The group as it is now was formed in 1983, but Viggo and Carsten meet each other as early as in 1979. The group published their first album in 1988 called Hva har vi da gjort ... siden vi ska' ha'et så godt. In 1989 they published their first hit-record entitled Nu ka' det vist ik bli' meget bedre which includes their two hit singles: "Uha-da-da" and "Gule ærter".
In later years they have had a comeback with their advent calendars: The Julekalender, Canal Wild Card, and CWC World.
It was written and performed almost entirely by a trio of Danish comedy musicians called DeNattergale with financial and technical assistance from TV2, a Danish television company.
A few Nisser survived, among them good old Gammel Nok (literally, "old enough", the one character not to be played by a member of DeNattergale), who is now on the brink of death, as the music box that plays his life tune needs to be wound up.
Since DeNattergale are actually musicians (albeit comedy musicians), the Nisser often burst into song, or find excuses to work music into each episode.
