Deacon is married to Kelly Palmer (Merrin Dungey). They have two children, Kirby (Marshaun Daniel) and Major. As seen in an episode, Kelly doesn't get along well with Deacon's mother. In the third season, Deacon was caught by Doug having dinner with an old friend, Angie, under suspicious circumstances. Deacon admitted to Doug that he had been seeing Angie on the side without telling Kelly. When this got out to Kelly, she temporarily left him, but eventually came back when he agreed to go to marriage counseling. In the fourth season, Kelly left Deacon because of a conversation she had with Carrie Heffernan, Doug's wife, over needing 'tentpoles' (i.e. strong memories to build a relationship around) for a stable marriage (this was likely due to the fact that Merrin Dungey was about to take on the role of Francie on the show Alias).
