Dead Man is the soundtrack to the 1995 Jim Jarmusch western-themed film of the same name starring Gary Farmer and Johnny Depp as William Blake. Neil Young recorded the soundtrack by improvising (mostly on his electric guitar, with some acoustic guitar, piano and organ) as he watched the newly edited film alone in a recording studio. The soundtrack album consists of seven instrumental tracks by Young, with dialog excerpts from the film and Johnny Depp reading the poetry of William Blake interspersed between the music. Dead Man - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (799 words)
Dead Man is a 1995 film written and directed by Jim Jarmusch.
Noted musician Neil Young recorded the haunting minimalist soundtrack by improvising on his electric guitar as he watched the newly edited film alone in a recording studio.
Auteur writer/director Jim Jarmusch's dream-like, trippy, and typically surreal and quirky, fl-and-white-and-gray, plot trumps substance film is a deliberately paced and eventually patience-testing, off-beat, stone-faced (non)comedy chronicle of transition from near-clown to immediate-badass with every persons' inevitable death ever-present in the beautifully scenic and realistically depraved Old West.
Metroactive Music | Dead Man Walking (947 words)
More thought-provoking than either, perhaps, is the album Dead Man Walking (Sony/Columbia), which bills itself as being "music from and inspired by the motion picture." Released in conjunction with the movie, Dead Man Walking is the first soundtrack album to admit at the outset that most of the music on it isn't in the movie.
Dead Man Walking proves that you can just give 'em a good strong theme, and they come through like gangbusters--songwriting is, after all, just a craft, like carpentry.
His "Dead Man Walking" was a highlight of his show in this area last November, a far more true and resonant number than any of the earnest and patronizing songs about immigrants and Vietnam vets that people his LP The Ghost of Tom Joad.
