Dean Keener (born September 18, 1965) is the head coach for the men's basketball team at James Madison University. Dean is a 1988 graduate of Davidson College where he served as a team captain and played on Davidson 1986 NCAA Tournament team. Coach Keener was hired on April 1, 2004 replacing 7 year Coach Sherman Dillard. Keener previously held various coaching positions at Drake University, University of Southern California, Virginia Tech, Southern Methodist University, and Georgia Tech. Dean played an instrumental role in recruiting and developing many of the players on the 2004 National Runner-up Georgia Tech Squad. Since being hired by JMU, Dean has a 18-68 overall record through the conclusion of the 2006-2007 season. Dean and his wife Meg have two children, Julia and Kyle, and a faithful Golden Retriever named Perdant.
