Dear America is a series of historical novels for older children published by Scholastic Press between 1996 and 2004. The series was cancelled in 2004 with the release of the final book, Hear My Sorrow. Some of the installments in the series have already gone out of print, though some are still being reprinted; this makes owning these books worth more. No specific reason has been given from Scholastic's as to Dear America's cancellation. Each book is written in the form of the diary of a fictional young woman---except in the case of Land of the Buffalo Bones, where all the main characters in the story were the author's real ancestors---living during an important event or time period in American history.
