Deathlike Silence was founded by Euronymous (Øystein Aarseth) sometime in the mid-80's. Aarseth took the name from the Sodom song of the same name (from their 1986 release Obsessed by Cruelty). The label was actually located in the basement of his cd store Helvete (Norwegian for Hell). At first, the label signed only Norwegianblack metal bands that were involved in anti-christian or evil activities. Later, Aarseth allowed bands from other countries to be signed.
