The Decretos de Nueva Planta' abolished de facto the Catalan Constitutions (Catalan Constitutions from 1535) The Decretos de Nueva Planta were a number of acts signed by Philip V of Spain shortly after the end of the War of the Spanish Succession. Taking France as a model of a centralized state, these decrees ruled that all the territories in the Crown of Aragon were to be ruled by the laws of Castile. The acts were promulgated in Valencia and Aragon in 1707, and in 1716 in Catalonia and the Balearic Islands (with the exception of Menorca, a colony of the United Kingdom at the time).
