In music a sound or note of definite pitch is one of which it is possible or relatively easy to discern the pitch or frequency of the fundamental, as opposed to sounds of indefinite pitch. Sounds with definite pitch have harmonic spectra or close to harmonic spectra.

The sense of pitch depends on the intensity of the tone, as shown in the graph; below 1000 Hz, pitch tends to drop with increasing loudness, and above 1000 Hz, tends to rise.
