Definitive Jux or Def Jux (both shortened forms of Definitive Juxtaposition) is an independent hip hop record label based in New York City, United States, co-founded in 1999 by former Company Flow member El-P (real name Jaime Meline) and Amaechi Uzoigwe.[1] The record label was initially known simply as Def Jux, but in 2001 popular hip hop label Def Jam sued Def Jux over the name similarity. This lawsuit was settled out of court[1] and the name was officially changed to Definitive Jux. The label is still commonly referred to as Def Jux by fans.
