The following is a list and brief history of football teams that at one time played in National Football League. In some cases it is hard to tell if a team change its nickname from year to year or if it was a completely new team. It was also not uncommon for two or more teams to have the same nickname during the same season. Please note the purpose of the list is for NFL teams that no longer exist. No NFL team has folded since 1952. The Colts and Giants teams that are listed on this page are not the current teams in the league today.
