A deleted affair, in literary terms, is a romantic relationship that is regarded to have occured at some point in the past of two characters, but is never referred to in the present story. Specifically, it is when such a relationship surfaces after the main story has progressed in such a way as to seem to establish that no such prior relationship occured (and thus, usually, when such events are revealed in later installments that follow the original work). This form of historical revisionism is often poorly recieved by readers of the story, as it is seen as a betrayal of the original tale.
