It concerns a senior radio technician who joins the crew building a space station, and her dispute with the contractor who doesn't want any women aboard "sniffing around my boys." The contractor is constantly putting his foot in his mouth with remarks like, "Listen to Jones, he's a good man" only to hear a brisk retort like, "I know, I trained him."
To the contrary, she proves to be a highly competent member of the crew and inspires civilized behaviors and attitudes among the others.
His wife, Phyllis, is upset at his having to go, and has second thoughts about being married to a space man. What should be a routine flight turns into an emergency when a child visiting the control room switches on the jets and alters the ship's course.
He is unable to venture into space again, or even to enjoy the open sky.
