Gamma Sigma Delta - Iowa Chapter History (1125 words)
The Iowa Beta Chapter of Gamma Sigma Delta is considered to be the parent chapter of "The Honor Society of Agriculture - Gamma Sigma Delta." Gamma Sigma Delta began as a professional agricultural fraternity called Delta Theta Sigma at Ohio State University 1 December 1905.
Therefore, the letters Gamma Sigma Delta represent the binding together of earth, the mother of all, with the practice of agriculture and the arts related thereto, for the welfare of humankind.
In early 1916, a joint committee of Gamma Sigma Delta and the Honor Society of Agriculture met at the University of Minnesota and reached a tentative agreement on a merger.
delta: Definition and Much More from Answers.com (1677 words)
The shape and internal structure of a delta depend on the nature and interaction of two forces: the sediment-carrying stream from a river, tidal inlet, or submarine canyon, and the current and wave action of the water body in which the delta is building.
In marine deltas the fluviatile influence decreases and the marine influence increases from the topset to the bottomset beds.
A different makeup is presented by the Rhone delta, where the supply of coarse material at the distributary mouths is slow, and dispersal by wave action and longshore drift fairly efficient, so that nearly all material is evenly redistributed as a series of coastal bars and dunes across a large part of the delta front.
