Delta is a village located in Madison Parish, Louisiana. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 239.

Geography

Delta is located at 32°19'17" North, 90°56'12" West (32.321342, -90.936544)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 8.1 km˛ (3.1 mi˛). 7.7 km˛ (3.0 mi˛) of it is land and 0.4 km˛ (0.2 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 4.81% water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 239 people, 101 households, and 62 families residing in the village. The population density is 31.0/km˛ (80.2/mi˛). There are 111 housing units at an average density of 14.4/km˛ (37.3/mi˛). The racial makeup of the village is 94.98% White, 2.51% African American, 0.42% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.42% from other races, and 1.67% from two or more races. 3.35% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 101 households out of which 32.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.5% are married couples living together, 8.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 38.6% are non-families. 33.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.37 and the average family size is 3.00.


In the village the population is spread out with 25.9% under the age of 18, 12.6% from 18 to 24, 28.0% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 11.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 82.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 86.3 males.


The median income for a household in the village is $29,750, and the median income for a family is $33,214. Males have a median income of $37,708 versus $18,929 for females. The per capita income for the village is $15,346. 12.5% of the population and 9.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 14.6% of those under the age of 18 and 38.9% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

Madame C. J. Walker was born here in 1867.
