Delta State is a state in Nigeria, named for the delta of the river Niger. It was carved out of the former Bendel State in 1991. The state has 25 local government areas. The capital city is Asaba. Warri is the biggest commercial city in the state.Other major towns are Agbor,Ughelli,Oghara,Sapele and Ogwashi-uku.The state Governor is Chief James Onanefe Ibori. The state's motto is "The Big Heart". Delta is an oil producing state of Nigeria situated in the region known as the Niger delta.Delta state government is however making efforts to diversify the state`s revenue base from solely oil.Tourism and agricultural development have been recieving adequate attention in Delta state. Delta state is a minature Nigeria with various ethnic groups. Thus, it has similar unique problems associated with her various ethnic differences. The state government has however managed to make peace between the warring groups in order to bring development to the various communities. Delta State is the most interesting and vibrant part of Nigeria.
