| The Democratic Alliance was an Italian political party that was originally meant to be the container of an alliance of left-wing forces for the parliamentary elections of 1994. However, the project did not succeed, and it presented itself as a minor party. After an unremarkable result, its components entered the left-wing and later centre-left coalitions, with the notable exceptions of Ferdinando Adornato, who is now a member of Silvio Berlusconi's party, Forza Italia, and Giulio Tremonti, who defected to Berlusconi the day after being elected to the Italian Parliament with the votes of the left-wing coalition; Mr. Tremonti has always been considered very close to Berlusconi since.
