The Democratic Party of Moldova (Partidul Democrat din Moldova) is a social democratic political party in Moldova. At the last legislative elections, 6 march 2005, the party was part of the Electoral Bloc Democratic Moldova (Blocul Electoral Moldova Democrată), that won 28.4 % of the popular vote and 34 out of 101 seats. Inside the Bloc the party won 8 seats. After the elections the bloc fell apart in three parliamentary groups of the constituent parties. Social democracy is a political ideology emerging in the late 19th and early 20th centuries from supporters of Marxism who believed that the transition to a socialist society could be achieved through democratic evolutionary rather than revolutionary means. ... A political party is a political organization that subscribes to a certain ideology and seeks to attain political power within a government. ... De party, led by Dumitru Diacov, is founded in 1998 as the continuation of For a Democratic and Prosperous Moldova.
