Catalonia (Catalan: Catalunya; Spanish: Cataluña; Aranese: Catalonha); is a country in the Iberian Peninsula, and one of the seventeen autonomous communities that constitute Spain.
Catalonia was officially recognised as a 'nationality' in the Catalan Statute of Autonomy enacted in 1979 pursuant to the Spanish Constitution of 1978.
