Dendritic drainage systems are the most common form of drainage system in the world. It consists of a main river with tributaries with their own tributaries. From above, it looks like a tree or a river delta in reverse. Examples include the Amazon River and the Mississippi River.

In geomorphology, a drainage system is the pattern formed by the streams, rivers, and lakes in a particular watershed.
In a dendritic system there is one main river (like the trunk of a tree), which is joined and formed by many smaller tributary rivers.
Dendritic systems form in V-shaped valleys; as a result, the rock types must be impervious and non-porous.
