Vacco came to national attention through a series of prosecutions brought against ISPs for allegedly distributing child pornography. The principal defendant Buffnet ince eventually pled guilty to a charge of fourth degree felicitation of a felony and was fined $5,000. [1]

Vacco played a prominent role in Mayor Rudy Giuliani's attempt to force Time-Warner Cable to carry the right-wing Fox News channel. An attempt by Vacco to bring an anti-trust violation charge against Time-Warner failed. Fined for Lobbying Violations
In 2005 Vacco was fined $500,000 for accepting a lobbying contract with an illegal $5.5 million 'success fee' barred under New York State anti-corruption laws.
And under the screaming inch-high headlines of Spitzer's own news releases are details of Vacco's hirings and firings that Spitzer claims have transformed the once non-partisan office into a patronage mill.
In a race that pits a former federal prosecutor, Vacco, against a one-time aide to Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau, Spitzer, the credentials of the candidates seem to have taken a backseat to charges and counter-charges.
The Vacco camp claims Spitzer could not possibly have financed the loans himself, as he has said, insinuating that his wealthy real-estate developer father, Bernard, helped his son and in the process violated campaign finance laws.
