Dennis Murphy (born 1934) is a composer, musician and artist.

After receiving Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Music from the University of Wisconsin, he received a PhD. in ethnomusicology at Wesleyan University in Connecticut. He taught for many years at Goddard College in Plainfiled, Vermont.

Dennis Murphy is one of the father's of American gamelan (along with William Colvig). He built the first Javanese style gamelan (Venerable Sir Voice of Thoom) ever made outside of Indonesia, and composed numerous works and shadow plays for it. He has also composed pieces of chamber and choral music. He is the founder and director of the Plainfield Village Gamelan and also performs with the Fyre & Lightning Consort and the Nicht Geferlach Klezmer Band.
