While Walling was still very capable maning third base near the end of his career. Astros fans and management tired of his lack of production at the corner spot during an owner mandated rebuilding period.


Released and signed by the Texas Rangers, Denny made a triuphant return to the American League and posted a .294 OPS. Yet, Denny became a fan favorite late inning repacement and was renown for abillity to make excellent contact. The "Good Wood" nickname became his hallmark yet many fans of the Rangers and Astros couldn't place it's origin.
