FDI World Dental Federation notation

Developed by the Fédération Dentaire Internationale (FDI), World Dental Federation notation is also known as ISO-3950 notation.

Tooth codes
1 central incisors
2 lateral incisors
3 canines
4 1st premolars
etc. etc.
8 3rd molars
Quadrant codes
1 upper right
2 upper left
3 lower left
4 lower right

Syntax: <quadrant code><tooth code>


Examples:

  • "13" = upper right canine
  • "32" = lower left lateral incisor

Orientation: patient's right corresponds to notation chart left.
