Duties of the Prime Minister of Saint Kitts and Nevis
St Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Dr DenzilDouglas and newly-elected Premier of Nevis, Joseph Parry pledged Tuesday to work closely for the continued economic development of the Island of Nevis and the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.
Douglas noted the pronouncements and statements of Premier Parry since he has assumed the mantle of leadership on Nevis.
Douglas also noted an earlier public statement by Parry that one of his priorities at this time is to continue the economic development of Nevis.
Douglas charges that, "a minority government" passed the Pensions Variation Act, "without one ounce of oppositio n, but the opposition was there out on the streets...We made it very, very clear to the world that we would not accept" that government.
Douglas said, the pensions "issue was put to the electorate [in 1995] and was debated.
Douglas told The Observer that he has been in touch with Simmonds both "on the phone and in writing" to inform him of the situation.
