The property is close to the Western Ring Road and provides easy access to the Western Freeway and Princes Highway.
It is not surprising that 20 of the 21 species of mammals that have become extinct in Victoria have disappeared from native grassland and grassy woodland which was their natural habitat.
Derrimut is at the centre of the attempt to save this grassland community from becoming extinct - and extinction is a real possibility.
The Derrimut grassland used to be home to the emu and wombat,to the whistling kite, eastern grey kangaroos, and a little creature called the bush thicknee.
