Gary Fish established the Deschutes Brewery in 1988 in Bend, Oregon on the banks of the Deschutes River.
The brewery is one of the top beer producers in Oregon and distributes its beer in twelve western states.
In April of 2006, the Deschutes Brewery replaced Quail Springs IPA, its English-style India pale ale, with Inversion IPA, an American Northwest-style India pale ale, as its year-round IPA.
