In den Jahren 1995 bis 2000 entstand nach Entwürfen von Ulrich Wolff und Helge Pitz der Erweiterungsbau des Deutschen Technikmuseums, das seit 1984 auf dem Gelände und in den Bauten des ehemaligen Anhalter Güterbahnhofs unweit des Potsdamer Platzes beheimatet ist.
Der Neubau aus Glas und Stahl inszeniert Technik an sich und macht sie zum gebauten Rahmen der Exponate: Tragende Konstruktion und Haustechnik bleiben als Studienobjekt sichtbar; auf dem Dach signalisiert ein Rosinenbomber des Typs C 47 "Skytrain" die Bestimmung des Gebäudes.
Mit über 50.000 qm Ausstellungsfläche ist das Haus nach dem Deutschen Museum in München die bedeutendste deutsche Sammlung zur Technikgeschichte des Industriezeitalters.
