Devrek had been founded as the name for "Hamidiye" to be affiliated with the sanjak of Bolu.Devrek was connected to Zonguldak in 1920 (14th of May).Devrek consists of 5 quarters, 3 subdistricts and 76 villages.Devrek is well-known with its walking sticks.

A. Location Of District:Devrek is in the inner zone of West Black Sea Region of Turkey. Altitude: 86 meter Surface Area: 1080 square meter

B. Earth's Surface Forms:

Surroundings are all mountains.Main mountain names are Babadağı, Göldağı (the highest), Akçasu and Yenice mountains, in Eğerci subdistrict Aksu, Karadere and Kuşkayası mountains.

Highest plateau is Aksu and the highest hill is Dorukan.

C. Rivers:

The most important river is Devrek creek. Devrek creek joins the Yenice Creek in Gökçebey district and takes the name of Filyos River.

D. Plant Cover:

Devrek has the most luxuriant forest in that area.Pine, oak, fir tree, beech, elm, chestnut, and lime trees can be found in that area.

E. Climate:

Mild weather is the characteristic of Devrek.Cool in summer, warmish and rainy in winter.

F. Social and Cultural Structure of District:

Every year on the third week of Jully, there is a festival named as "Devrek walking stick and cultur festival".It has been celebrated since 1984.

The Famous tourism place is "Yedigöller (7 lakes) National Park".

The famous picnic area is called as "Bostandüzü"

In February and March there is an hunting drives for pigs.
