Situated at the heart of the city near Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Dhaka Medical College is an educational institution with a rich heritage. Each year, 150 of the brightest students of the country seek admission here after a very competitive entrance examination. The college has produced some of the country's most prolific doctors.

The DhakaMedicalCollege and its affiliate, DhakaMedicalCollege Hospital, were accommodated in a building constructed in 1904 as the Secretariat Building for the province of East Bengal and Assam.
DhakaMedicalCollege and DMCH were under one administration until 1975, when they were made two different entities with a Principal as the head of the college and a Director as the chief administrator of the hospital.
