"Dhanyakataka' means town of rice or paddy. Dharanikota located in the Krishna Valley near Amaravati, is the site of ancient Dhanyakataka which was the capital of the kingdom of the Satavahanas who ruled in the Deccan around the 1st to 3rd centuries A.D.. It also seems to have been the capital of the Kota Vamsa Dynasty. The Krishna valley is a very important rice producing area.
