Crimes against Children - The World and I Magazine (2476 words)
Diana Russell's book is a comprehensive report on her famous San Francisco study of a normative cross section of 930 women, all of whom were interviewed by a trained team of sociologists.
Russell reports that approximately 17 percent of girls who have a stepfather as a primary caretaker are abused by him, as opposed to 2.3 percent of girls living with biological fathers.
Russell devotes a chapter to the evaluation of these findings in an attempt to explain the factors that contribute to revictimization, in what is perhaps one of the most in testing sections of the book.
