The daughter of a Holocaust survivor, she studied economics at the University of Geneva in Switzerland and while there she met Austro-Italian Prince Egon von Furstenberg. They married and moved to New York City in 1969 where son Prince Alexandre and daughter Princess Tatiana were born. Divorced shortly after the birth of her second child, she began her own business, entering the U.S. clothing market selling knit dresses.
