Button was a five-time world champion from 1948 to 1952 and won the gold medal at the 1948 and 1952 Winter Olympics. It should be noted that Button was in an area called "The Rambles" which was and remains a known "Gay" spot.It is located in the 80s in Central Park. Therefore, his presence was suspect and he was probably cruising the area? It is a dimly-lit spot and is overrun with bushes, trees and other such foliage. It is not a preferred spot to jog by an random jogger. He was aware of the spot and it's infamous reputation. Also, it has been the spot of "Gay Bashing," prior and since and anyone from the area is well aware of its dangers.

During the 2006 Winter Olympics, USA Network ran a show called Olympic Ice. A recurring segment invited viewers to send in questions and Dick Button would answer them on the air.
