Being a child of Yorkshire, Dicken says he has a lot of affection for the story of Brassed Off, in which a colliery band, along with their mine, are faced with closure.
Dicken admits that fitting a cast and a full brass band complement on the stage will be a tall order.

IN an acting career spanning three decades, Todmorden-born Dicken Ashworth's face has become synonymous with those of the working class heroes that he plays.
Ahead of his debut in Paul Allen's stage adaptation of the British cinema hit, Brassed Off, at Oldham Coliseum, Dicken, who will play conductor Danny, says the ability to appear "real" is a source of great pride for him.
As if underlining his popularity among directors and producers when casting "Everyman" roles, Dicken's last two parts have been playing a lead role in a comedy production about nightlife antics called Bouncers and being the voice of Mr Mulch, a farmer, in the latest instalment of the hit animation, Wallace and Gromit.
