Encyclopedia > Dickie Knee

Dickie Knee is a puppet character on the Australian television show Hey Hey It's Saturday.

To viewers, Dickie was a small boy who popped up on the show every so often to ask questions or offer his particular brand of insight. In actual fact, Dickie consisted of a blue hat and black curly wig on the end of a stick. This led to plenty of innuendo about Dickie's stick and in-jokes about how hideous Dickie's face was. Dickie specialised in popping up to terrify unexpecting overseas guests, who clearly had no idea what he was supposed to be.

Dickie was the creation of announcer and radio presenter John Blackman, who also voiced several other oddball characters on the show, including the angel (a small angelic creature which an unusually coarse nature) and Mrs Macgillacuddy (a hideous old hag).
